Decodes file/folder names truncated to 80 characters

Postby coyote2 » Mon Aug 22, 2022 12:41 pm

My file/folder names are truncated at 80 characters. At first I thought this was a full-path issue, but the full path only adds 13 characters (I:\share-I\N\).

So 13 + 80 for the foldername + 1 for the / + 80 for the filename + 4 for the extension = 178

I enabled LongPaths in both the Registry and Group Policy then rebooted, but that didn't help. Shortening the full path (it had started with I:\share-I\NewsBin-DECODE\) didn't even change the truncation from 80.

For example, today I encountered this with a 118-character filename (pre suffix) and 118 character folder name and both were truncated at 80.

Not sure when this started, possibly some months ago when I upgraded from an old version to current versions. I can't find a Newsbin setting that appears to address this.

If you use "$(RAWSUBJECT)" instead of "$(SUBJECT)" I believe it doesn't trim the subject.

Where is the trimmed path segment coming from? I mean is it an NZB Filename or something from inside a rar?

Thank you very much for your reply, Quade! Wow, I realize now how very little I know or remember about how this works!

All I know is that I edit my NZB files (and that usually results in the final decoded folder/file names) and drag-and-drop them into Newsbin. And here's a screenshot of my paths with codes:

From this can you tell me what to do please? (Sorry for such a totally ignorant answer to a specific question!)

Changing my paths to

gives me the full 118-character NZBname as the foldername!...but the filename within the folder is still truncated at 80 characters pre-extension. Where can stop the filename from being truncated?

Hi Quade,

I noticed the same issue.

I'm using a NZB Watch Folder with the following settings:

Download Folder: E:\Temp\newsbin\$(NZBFILE)\
Unrar Folder: R:\$(NZBFILE)\

If the NZB Filename is longer than 80 characters the Unrar Folder gets truncated.
E.g. For a NZB File 01234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345{{password}}.nzb
the Unrar Folder will be
R:\01234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789
instead of
R:\01234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345

It's not a big deal for me, just something I've noticed.

Btw. Download Folder is correct.

Best regards

billy
