Version 6.80 Release Candidate 2 Available...

Postby dexter » Wed Jan 03, 2018 7:25 pm

RC1 did not work right on 32 bit machines. That issue has been resolved in RC2 along with the issue with some tabs not staying open between runs. There are still a couple of other esoteric bugs we are trying to track down but we want to give RC2 some more exercise in the mean time.

Summary of changes:
  • Fixed issue running on 32 bit machines.
  • The remote NZB interface is now single threaded. Still supports multiple clients but they get processed in sequence instead of in parallel. Addresses potential reliability issues.
  • Fixed issue where some tabs would not stay open between runs such as Servers and Thumbnails.
  • Fixed a potential thread exit which can be triggered by some specific errors.
  • Fixed issue where header downloads on empty groups would leave the download in the download list sometimes.
  • Fixed issue where download errors could force the assembler thread to exit.
  • Made some changes to address error reports possibly tripping for an unrelated error event.

The full change history and the download link is on the Newsbin Beta Page.

If you find any issues, please reply to this thread or use our Technical Support Contact Form.

Opening Newsbin costs me one Search

Postby bd baker » Wed Jan 03, 2018 9:09 pm

I have a standard subscription to the Newsbin Search service (i.e. 500 searches / month). I've observed that simply opening the application "costs" me one search (i.e. without even entering anything in the search window). I don't know when this started and it isn't a huge deal since I don't think I've ever used anywhere near my 500 searches in a month, but it is a little unsettling.

That should not be the case. The Search count only decrements when you perform a search. Is it possible you have a Watch List configured? The Watch List will perform a search each time you start Newsbin and then will continue based on the frequency you have set under Options -> Settings -> Switches.

Aha! A watch list I haven't used in quite some time - deleted and that cured the issue. Thanks!

Hi,
I can confirm that the problem with downloading a single rar from within a grouped obfuscated post, reported against B12 & B13, has been fixed - Many thanks.

Also, it looks like my DownloadMarker.db3 file became corrupted somehow, not sure if it is RC2, as I didn't notice any problems before the upgrade from RC1.

I managed to recover it and downloads are behaving properly again.

regards

Hi.
After upgrading to version 6.80 RC2, I found the "Password Manager" does not work for multi-volume RAR4 archives, where password-protected are the files inside the archive only (itself rar archive is unprotected).
Needed for unpacking the archive password is present in the Password Manager list.
If I enter a password manually, the archive unpacked without problems.
Tested on two archives (others not yet found)
Added:
If the archive is password protected fully, including the names of the files it unpacked with no problems using the password from the password list in the Password Manager.
I'm not sure it worked correctly or not in earlier versions, cos i some times jumped from new version to old and back.

Hi,

after upgrading to RC2 I get the following error in the Logging tab:

Code: Links not allowed for unregistered users
ERROR FileAssemblerThread - internal crash

In the Logfile.txt it is 167 times logged before Newsbin 6.80RC2 is stopping the download.

If you want to email a couple NZB's and passwords, I can try it. What I'm reading is that the recursive unrar, the unrar after the first unrar is where it's not picking up a password?

[email protected]

When you say "Manual" you mean unraring with WinRAR?

So does this version still handle long obfuscated file names resuming download when restarting Newsbin as the MOTD archive page still says to download Beta 13 for that?

http://www.newsbin.com/motd_archive_2017.php

Handling Obfuscated Posts

More people are posting files in an obfuscated format that isn't supported in versions of Newsbin prior to the current 6.80 beta. If you are downloading from NZB files that have obfuscated posts in them, you should upgrade to the latest beta which is 6.80 Beta 13

Cheers

Forums are ahead of MOTD posts. The forum post exposes a smaller number of people to try out new releases and then we make the broader announcement in the MOTD once the version is proven out. This version, RC2, has everything B13 had. So the answer to your question is yes.

I noticed the installer of Newsbin 6.80RC2 asks 2 times for the language to use, once before the elevation prompt and once after. (Win 10 64bit)

Re: RC2 Autopar problem

Postby meenich » Mon Jan 08, 2018 1:00 pm

Just ran into a problem that I had seen on B12 or B13 (don't recall exactly), but hadn't encountered in any of the RCs. Sometimes, after a successful download and autopar/unrar, NB deletes the unrared file(s), leaving no trace of them (i.e., truly removed, not just pushed in the Recycle Bin). The Files List tab claims everything went well, but when I right-click on the unrared file in that tab and select the View File option, it can't find it either.

The download was based on an NZB file obtained from NZBPlanet, the par and rar files were properly moved to the Recycle Bin (which is how I could tell that the PAR succeeded, after restoring them), just the unrar directory/files seem to have been permanently deleted.

Thanks.

Are you using Sonarr too? I've seen sonarr move files that were downloaded using outside NZB's.

Ahh - thank you - this was driving me nuts! Turns out I had installed Sonarr ages ago to experiment, and after deciding to not use it, didn't remove it and completely forgot about it. Turns out it was still moving things silently in the background.

Sorry for falsely point the finger at NB!

On 6.80RC2, my watch topics are not updating. they currently stand at 4d:14h+.

I have closed the app and restarted.

I've also rebooted and they still are not updating.

Anything else to try?

Any errors in the logging tab? Are you using header or search based watch lists?

They are search based Watch List.

There are no errors in the logging window.

Might want to give RC3 a try. It's up now and the watch list code is heavily logged in order to see what it's doing.

I upgraded to 6.80RC3 and they have started processing again.

However, had the same experience with 6.8RC2. At some point, that one just stop processing them.

Will keep an eye on it and squawk if it happens again. BTW, where would the logging for that feat6ure be found?

If you turn debug logging on in the advanced options, you can see the log messages. It counts down between runs and then reports what it's searching for.

Another user who had problems with the automatic watches says he isn't in RC3.
