Lastest beta's crashing with autopar enabled

While it isn't officially supported, we have many users who successfully run NewsBin under Linux with a Windows emulator (Wine is the most popular). This forum exists for you Linux guys to share your experience getting NewsBin running on Linux as well as report any strangeness that we may or may not be able to fix. DThor is the resident expert.

Lastest beta's crashing with autopar enabled

Postby kenr » Wed Oct 07, 2009 10:10 am

I have been running NB happily under crossover for ages. The last 2 beta releases are crashing when they try to correct a par set.
This is repeatable 100% :!:

Support says they don't support Linux... So is anybody else having the same issues?

Using 5.54rc6 or 7
Crossover 8 Pro installed in the home folder.
Linux Mint 7 32 bit
3Gb ram
180Gb free on storage drive.

I would install and try a recent wine release. I'm a little backed up with things atm, but a quick test with wine 1.1.9 didn't crash, the rar's extracted, all well. You may want to run NB via the command line with crossover and note any messages of interest coming from the shell.

Wine and crossover can co-exist, with crossover you're sometimes caught with an older wine snapshot...personally I always stick with wine.

I just have done that. Wine runs the beta 7 fine, where as crossover 8 crashes with it.

Will try with the release ver when it comes out and if it still crashes will report it to crossover, since it is still licensed . :D

Might want to report it now. Nothing I change between now and release will have any affect on this issue. You've pretty much trouble-shot it down to a Crossover problem.

ticket raised with them today. Will see what they say.

Their reply (basically) was that as NB is unsupported TOUGH!
A shame as under wine the window size is never the same every time it starts up. But at least it is working fine under wine.
