What is going on with this error? Me or my news server?

About 10 days ago I started noticing this bizarre error showing up in NB 6.90:

News Hosting is going about an issue with my firewall - which is most definitely not a problem. Could this anything to do with NewsBin vs NewsHosting?

I am convinced it's their problem but wondering if anyone has seen similar.

Issue is not easy to trace and does not happen every time I download a multipart file. Some work, some do not - making me think this is a news server issue.

Appreciate any insight on this

The error means that Newsbin asks windows for the internet of the address of the server and windows is saying "don't know". So the first thing to check is that the address is correct.

How many connections are you trying to use?

It being intermittent makes me think you're running so many connections there's no space for DNS to work.

My Newshosting account allows 100 connections - which has worked brilliantly for months now - strange that it would start acting up now based on Connections?

I will tap it back a bit and see that helps.

It's typically pointless to use 100 connections with usenet. I'd suggest using 10-15. If you can't get full speed, bump if up by 5.

You really want to run the fewest connections that give full speed. It's not like torrents. I get consistently > 600 Mbps with 14 connections.

So I tried your suggestions ranging from 5 to 10 to 15 to 20 connections - and saw the same issue with the same sort of occurrence - a good fileset here and bad one there. Not consistent and not successful for sure.

To compare I set up the Newshosting "official" newsreader (3.1.4) on a VM and went to the exact same posts in the exact same groups - and made no adjustments to the connection count and all the same files that I tried in NewsBin - came down without any issues in Newshosting 3.1.4.

Oddly - I am not getting not the same sort of download speed as in Newsbin - but I am getting 100% success.

Thoughts? The only major change I have made in the last month or so was moving from 6.72 to 6.90. I may try a rollback to test...

What speed are you getting?

I have no issues with DNS here running at 600+ Mbps. It sounds like you're getting a bunch of disconnects because DNS is only used to when you have to re-connect to the news server. Is this on Wifi?

I tried to update my post here yesterday but your forum software keeps insisting that I exceeded my login attempts so my update post must have been lost.

I heard back from NewsHosting and they were able to reproduce the issue on their end and are now working on a fix. If/when I see things settle down I will swing back with an update.

I just wanted to confirm that I'm also having the same problem of late. Tried re-installing Newsbin 6.9 but that didn't work.

What address is in the server address field?

Your symptoms seem to be worse. His downloads work but he has these errors. In your case it's like Newsbin can't even get out onto the internet. So I'd suspect non-microsoft firewall.
