Who's still using Newsbin after all these years?

Postby Porkrinds » Sun Nov 24, 2024 8:45 pm

Just wanted to say thanks for keeping up with the maintenance required to adapt to changes to usenet over the years. It's not been perfect, but it works. The UI doesn't bother me like some.

I can't imagine this project brings in much income, so again, thanks for keeping things workable in the light of all the FOSS projects out there.

It occasionally saddens me with the way Usenet is going but, nothing last forever. It's been a good run.

I've been working on RC4 recently. Wanted to put it up last week but someone reported autopar problems I'm looking at.

I still use it every days. Usenetserver has about 10 years of files on it. I haven't seen them all yet...

Thanks Quade 8) and it saddens me the way the internet has evolved in general, not just usenet. Automation is nice, but I also miss the days of browsing headers looking for something new to try.

When I'm bored I'll browse the Newsbin MOTD archive for nostalgia. Looking back I wish I had posted here more and lurked less. Oh well. Cheers

I've been using Newsbin Pro almost every day since sometime during the year of 1995. The security department at my internet provider once called asking "Are you trying to download the entire internet?".

Easynews has more than 16 years of files. "I haven't seen them all yet..."

I still like the search feature of Newsbin, although many indexers are surfacing.

I kind of favor Sabnzbd when downloading, always gives full max speed of my internet and little to no issue with any nzb used.

But then again, if I use the search feature in Newbin I use Newsbin to download and see little issues most times when downloading.
Plus there are still a few small groups, although hard to find, when most providers give you close to 6,000 days retention.
But I do have a few small groups I follow with Newsbin. Not really any other newsreader even close to being supported now. Look around and see the last dates other newsreaders were even close to being updated.
